Want to buy a Transit van? Don’t live in North America? Are disabled or spend a lot of time in traffic? Up to now, you’ve had a problem because all Transits outside North America have come with three pedals.

Later this year your time will come. Mr Ford has announced the combination of various models of Transit with a six speed automatic box as an option from this autumn.

Isn’t life grand?

you can exclude Australia from that, we’ve had auto Transits for years.. I think maybe Australia Post has something to do with it but I’m not sure.

I had an idea that might be the case as Australia is quite Americanised in some respects but didn’t look.

Now I’ve looked and having seen all manner of weird and wonderful Oz Fords on the way (Falcon pickup, Territory) it’s the same as here. 2.2 diesel and manual box in all cases for both the small and large Transit. The previous models may have been different or your Post Office had a special order.

Not sure and can’t find any info, I know the Postie ones are mostly auto but it looks like there’s a few campers and the like available in an auto. All 2.4 or 2.5 diesels.

At least the Falcon and Territories (based on the Falcon platform) have the excuse of being designed and built here.
